Jakarta, 28 January 2026. Heartology Cardiovascular Hospital held the CARES 2026 Mini Workshop, 3D Echocardiography Essentials: Building the Foundation for Advanced Imaging Across All Ages, on 18 January 2026 at Heartology, Jakarta. It was attended by 30 cardiologists with a focus on echocardiography and paediatric cardiology.

Scientific Sessions, Live Demos, and Hands-On Practice

The programme included scientific sessions on three-dimensional imaging to assess left and right ventricular function and its use in congenital and structural heart disease, live demonstrations of 3D transthoracic (TTE) and transoesophageal (TEE) echocardiography, hands-on workstation sessions, and live intervention cases showing how precise imaging supports clinical decisions in real time.

Prof. Luigi Badano, MD, Ph.D. joined as an international speaker. He stressed that echocardiography is the main tool for diagnosing heart disease, so continued learning in cardiovascular imaging remains essential.

The Role of 3D Echocardiography in Congenital Heart Disease

According to dr. BRM Ario Soeryo Kuncoro, Sp.JP(K), 3D echocardiography helps map complex ventricular shapes in congenital heart disease, assess changes in ventricular volume and function, and evaluate valve anatomy and function in more detail. It can also guide catheter-based interventions.

dr. Radityo Prakoso, Sp.JP(K), who led a live demonstration of an ASD closure, explained that echocardiography is the main method for detecting and monitoring heart conditions in babies and children, because it is non-invasive, radiation-free, and repeatable. He cited international data showing the recorded rate of congenital heart disease rising from 0.6 per 1,000 live births in 1930 to 9.1 per 1,000 in 2010.

Through activities like this, Heartology supports stronger clinical skills, precise cardiac imaging, and ongoing scientific collaboration.
