Is This Package Right for You?
Who This Package Is For
Plaque buildup in the artery walls, called atherosclerosis, develops slowly and often without symptoms. Plaque in the neck arteries can reduce blood flow to the brain and is linked to stroke, while plaque in the legs can cause calf pain when walking. Vascular Health & Wellness is designed for adults 35 and over, or anyone with risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, or a family history of heart disease and stroke.
What the Tests Look At
- Carotid and femoral Doppler: an ultrasound of the large arteries in your neck (carotid) and upper thigh (femoral) to look at wall thickening, plaque, narrowing, and blood flow. It uses no needles and no radiation.
- ABI: compares blood pressure at your ankles and arms to look for narrowing in the leg arteries.
- ECG and echocardiography: the ECG records your heart rhythm, including atrial fibrillation if it is happening during the recording, a rhythm problem that can lead to stroke. Echocardiography, an ultrasound of the heart, assesses the chambers, valves, and pumping strength.
- Lab tests, chest X-ray, and BIA: cholesterol, blood sugar including HbA1c, uric acid, kidney and liver function, and hs-CRP, a marker of low-grade inflammation linked to vascular disease risk. BIA measures body fat and muscle.
On the Day
The checkup takes about 3 to 4 hours, and you do not need to stay overnight. Come after fasting for 10 to 12 hours for the blood draw. Wear loose clothing that is easy to open at the neck and upper thighs for the ultrasound, and leave necklaces at home. This package has no treadmill test, so you do not need special shoes.
Going Over Your Results
Full results are ready in 2 to 3 working days. A cardiologist reviews the findings on your arteries and heart together with your risk factors. A clinical nutrition specialist helps you plan meals for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. If significant narrowing is found, your doctor will explain the options for further tests or treatment.

Understand What the Results Mean and Their Limits.
Results Need to Be Read in Context.
A health checkup helps identify risk factors and early findings. A good result does not guarantee the absence of disease, and some findings may need further tests.
A checkup package does not replace a doctor's assessment of symptoms. If you have severe or sudden symptoms, go to the nearest emergency department right away or call Heart Attack Center 1500 258, rather than waiting for a checkup appointment.
Educational basis: NHS, benefits and limits of screening. The right package is decided with a doctor.

Checkup coverage depends on your insurer's rules and your policy. Ask about the documents and approvals you need before the checkup.

Questions before You Book.
Answers to common questions before your vascular checkup in this package.
What should I do to prepare?
Fast for 10 to 12 hours before the blood draw; drinking plain water is usually fine. Do not stop your regular medicines, such as blood pressure pills, without your doctor's advice. If you take diabetes medicine or insulin, ask about it when you register. Wear loose clothing that is easy to open at the neck and upper thighs, and bring any previous test results.
What happens during the neck and leg Doppler ultrasound?
You lie down while the examiner spreads gel on your neck and upper thighs and moves the ultrasound probe over the skin. The screen shows the artery walls and blood flow, and you may hear the sound of blood flow from the machine. The test uses no needles or radiation and is usually painless. You only need to lie still and turn your head when asked.
How is this package different from the other checkup packages?
Vascular Health & Wellness focuses on your blood vessels: carotid and femoral Doppler, ABI, and hs-CRP, plus an ECG and echocardiography. It does not include a treadmill test or a coronary calcium score. If you exercise regularly and want your heart assessed under exertion, Cardiac Sportacular is a better fit. If you already have a coronary stent, choose Heal & Beat (Post PCI). Cardiovascular Prime Screening includes more heart and vascular tests.
When are results ready, and who explains them?
Full results are ready in 2 to 3 working days. A cardiologist explains your Doppler, ABI, and heart test results and relates them to your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. If plaque or narrowing is found, the doctor may suggest further tests, medicines, or lifestyle changes. A checkup is screening, so any treatment decision is always made together with your doctor.
What should I do if stroke symptoms appear?
A checkup package is not for emergencies. If you or someone near you suddenly has a drooping face, weakness in an arm or leg on one side, slurred speech, or sudden vision problems, go to the nearest emergency department right away and note the time symptoms started. Do the same for severe chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or fainting. Stroke treatment depends heavily on time.
